HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — A burst sewer pipe is pouring up to half a million gallons of sewage into a waterbody in Hopewell each day, with state health officials telling people to stay out of the water.
On Thursday, July 16, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) issued a recreational water advisory for Bailey Bay following a force main break — or the bursting of a pressurized sewer pipe — in Hopewell.
This pipe reportedly burst the morning of Tuesday, July 14, in the area of 1401 South First Avenue near Cattail Creek.
